Woman held captive by brothers rescued
GUJRAT: Hafizabad police rescued a 42-year-old woman who was allegedly held captive in a room of her house by her brothers for 10 years.
The woman was shifted to the Institute of Mental Health in Lahore on Friday after being given initial treatment at the trauma centre of Rescue 1122 in Hafizabad.
Hafiz Ahmad Jamal, a spokesman for Hafizabad police, told Dawn by phone that a police team had raided the house on Thursday where Naila was found locked up allegedly over a property issue.
He said a case had been registered against three people, including Naila’s brothers Junaid and Shoaib, and cousin Muhammad Asif, after a local had informed police that the cries of a woman did not let neighbours sleep at night.
Police arrested Junaid and Asif and a case was registered against them under sections 344, 346, 498A, 506, 186 and 34 of PPC on the report of Assistant Sub-Inspector Rai Arif of Hafizabad police.
Earlier, when the police team had raided the house it found it locked from outside. The team tried to enter the house, while some neighbours also gathered on the scene. In the meantime, one of the brothers reached there along with his cousin and started threatening the police team.
The locals identified the crying woman as the two men’s sister.
