Two cops held after gang-rape suspect flees custody

KASUR: Sara-i-Mughal police on Wednesday registered a case against its sub-inspector and a constable and arrested them after one of the gang-rape suspects managed his escape from their custody.

According to complainant SI Sadhi Ahmed, Sara-i-Mughal police arrested Muhammad Arif and Ghulam Mustafa a couple of days back for allegedly raping a woman at Halla village.

On Wednesday, the suspects were brought before the area magistrate at Pattoki courts. The magistrate gave a five-day physical remand of the suspects and also ordered for a DNA test.

According to the complainant, SI HadyatAliandconstableMuhammad Imran, after the court proceedings, took the suspects to Punjab ForensicScience Agency, Lahore, and gave samples for DNA. The FIR states that as the suspects were on a five-day physical remand, it was beyond understanding why the cops were in a hurry to take them to PFSA for DNA profiling the same day.

When the team reached outside Sara-i-Mughal police station from Lahore, Arif managed his escape while Mustaf a remained in custody.

Kasur DPO Abdul Ghaffar Qaisrani suspended the cops and ordered their arrest.

Sara-i-Mughal police have arrested the policemen and lodged a criminal case against them under sections 155-C of Police Order 2002 and 223 of Pakistan Penal Code. Later, police claimed to have arrested Arif from his hideout following a tip-off.

HOTELS: Over a dozen makeshift hotels were opened after a weeklong closure when police took oath from their owners [in the mosque]that they would stop selling drugs here on Wednesday.

City Phoolnagar police ordered owners of several makeshifts hotel at Multan Road to close their business as they allegedly indulged in drug peddling. The hotels meant for motorists especially for long rout truck drivers were closed indefinitely some eight days back.

SHO City Phoolnagar Muhammad Latif Gujjar on Wednesday called the owners of the hotels and asked them to take oath on the Holy Quran in the mosque that they would stop selling narcotics. The owners immediately agreed and took oath.

When contacted SHO Latif Gujjar said at least three owners were bookedfordrugpeddhnginthepast while the rest were suspected of supplying narcotics.

He said the action had been taken as a good gesture while police would continue monitoring the hotels.
