Punjab issues police guidelines for cases of sexual violence against children
RAWA LPINDI: The Punjab government has taken notice of increasing sexual violence and pornography against children and issued guidelines to police across the province to begin searching for missing children soon after receiving complaints, and to register cases on an urgent basis.
Following the provincial government`s directives, the Punjab police chief has directed divisional police chiefs and city police officers (CPO) across the province to take effective measures to prevent such incidents.
Search operations involving the child protection bureau should be launched soon after missing child complaints are received.
The police have also been told to make announcements about missing children on cable networks and register FIRs on an urgent basis.
In addition, station house officers (SHO) are to immediately report any incident of sexual violence against children to the concerned sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) and district police officer (DPO).
Investigations into cases of sexual violence against children should be supervised by DPOs, who are to directed SDPOs and SHOs to conduct impartial and fair investigations.
All suspects should be arrested as soon as possible and charges should be submitted in a timely fashion in court.
Following these directives, Rawalpindi police have arrested five suspects allegedly involved in sexually abusing a nine-year-old in Rawat.
A police spokesperson said the arrests came after CPO Mohammad Faisal Rana took notice of the incident.
A case was registered on the complaint of the child`s father. Five suspects have been arrested and produced in court, where they were handed over to the police on physical remand.
A medical examination of the victim has been conducted and the suspects are underinterrogation.
The CPOhas directedñeld ofHcerstokeepaneye on any habitual abusers and to remain in close contact with the complainant in such cases and keep them updated on the investigation.
