Mother of three subjected to acid attack `by her brothers`
BAHAWALPUR: A woman suffered serious burns in an alleged acid attack at 33/DNB village in the limits of Head Rajkan police station near Yazman, some 30kms from here.
According to police, Ms Khalida Parveen, wife of Ramzan had a land distribution dispute with her brothers -Irshad, Shehzad and Mujtaba.
In her complaint lodged with the Head Rajkan police, Ms Parveen, a mother of three children, alleged that her brothers, along with their two unidentified accomplices riding motorcycles threw acid on her in a street near her house and fled away.
She said as a result, she sustained serious burns.
She was shifted to hospital by police who reached the spot responding to an emergency call.
The police registered an FIR (No.170/19) under section 336 -B of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against the Eve suspects, three of them nominated, who were yet to be arrested.
The victim who, according to doctors, suffered burns on various parts of her body, was stated to be in a serious condition at the hospital.
LOCUSTS THREAT: Although the local administration claimed to have destroyed a large number of locusts swarms in Cholistan during the ongoing operation, these insects afterrecentrainsinseveralparts ofthe region,stillposed a threat to the vegetation and crops cultivated in the areas bordering the desert in Bahawalpur district.
These apprehensions were expressed at a meeting chaired by Commissioner Nayyar Iqbal here.
The meeting was informed that the operation against locusts at Cholistan`s five places -Bijnot, Rahabwala, Balota and villages No 219 and 263, a large number of locusts was destroyed.
However, it was told, that the insects were still breeding as they were nourished by the moisture and dampness caused by therecentrains.
The officals concerned proposed massive spray of pesticides to tackle the threat.
The meeting decided to send medical teams to the areas under spray to protest the human population and livestock against the effects of pesticides.
It also decided to establish a control centre in Bahawalpur to monitor the movement of locusts in the region to keep other parts of the province informed about it.
The meeting was attended through video-link by Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director Malik Hameadullah, Member Board of Revenue Mr Ahmad Ali, Agriculture Director-General Dr Anjum Ali, Pest Warning DG Dr Zafaryab Haider, besides the deputy commissioners (DCs) of Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan and officials of Multan agriculture department.
Bahawalpur DC Shozeb Saeed, Agriculture Director Khalid Jamshed Sindhu and the regional and divisional officials of forest, wildlife departments and the Cholistan Development Authority (CDA) were present in the meeting.
