Mansehra teachers refuse to carry out household survey – 10 Mar 2021

MANSEHRA: Over 500 teachers tasked with carrying out the household socioeconomic survey on Tuesday took to the streets and announced that they won`t do the task until the government provided them with security.

Chairman of All Primary Teachers Association Bashir Yousufzai told protesters outside the deputy commissioner`s secretariat here that the teachers, who were part of the survey teams, weremanhandled and threatened by the people in Ghazikot and other areas.

`We [teachers] won`t carry out the survey responsibilities until security is provided to us,` he said as the teachers shouted slogans holding banners and placards.

Mr Yousufzai said as the teachers visited houses to get details of the families` socioeconomic conditions, size, educational qualifications, and utility bills, many people attacked them.

President of the association Attique Mughal said the affected teachers approached the police but didn`t get the sought-after help, so such attacks were on the rise.

The teachers later met additional deputy commissioner Maqbool Hussain, who is the focal person for the survey, and informed him about attacks and sought his help againstthem.

POLICE RECRUITMENT: Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hazara Range, Mirwaiz Niaz, on Tuesday said the provincial government had approved more personnel for Lower Kohistan and Kolai-Palas districts and their merit-based appointment would begin shortly.

He told the police darbar in Pattan, the district headquarters of Lower Kohistan that the police`s performance in Lower Kohistan and Kolai-Palas districts was up to the mark and the recruitment of more personnel would increase it further.

CAMPUS SOUGHT: The residents have demanded the establishment of the Hazara University`s campus in Oghi tehsil.

`The last PML-N governmenthad released Rs500 million funds for the establishment of the Hazara University`s campus in Oghi six years ago but the current PTI government has yet to materialise the important educational initiative, former tehsil councillor Hafiz Younis told reporters in Oghi on Monday.

Accompanied by a group of people, Mr Younis said the vice-chancellor of the Hazara University should ensure the early establishment of the sought-af ter campus.

TOL L TAX PROT EST: The political activists, ulema, traders and transporters have demanded an immediate end to the collection of toll tax on the Karakoram Highway in Khatain da Galla area here.

During a jirga here on Monday, they also threatened to remove the toll plaza by f orce.
