Child labour survey initiated in KP – 3 Jan 2021

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has started child labour survey in the province which is likely to be completed by end of 2021 and for this purpose Rs241 million has been allocated in the current annual development programme.

A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mahmood Khan was also informed that a scheme worth Rs59 million had been approved to ensure the occupational safety and health of labourers and mineworkers in the province, said an official statement issued here on Saturday.

It said the chief minister termed wellbeing of labourers and protection of their rights one of thefocused areas of the government and a number of projects andwelfare schemes for labourers were being completed on priority.

Besides PM`s special assistant Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari, provincial cabinet members Shaukat Yousafzai, Sultan Khan, Abdul Karim Khan, Qalandar Lodhi and Arif Ahmadzai, the meeting was also attended by concerned highups of the federal and provincial governments.

The meeting was informed that legislation was in process in the province to ensure occupational safety and health of labourers whereas mechanical mining was also being introduced.

Matters related to the devolution of various subjects of labour sector from the centre to provincial government also came under discussion.-Bureau Report
