Actor`s bail extended in domestic violence case

LAHORE: A sessions court on Monday extended prearrest bail of actor Mohsin Abbas Haider in a case lodged by his estranged wife Fatima Sohail with Defence police on charges of domestic violence.

Haider, along with his legal team, appeared before Additional District & Sessions Judge IrfanBasra on expiry of the bail period.

His counsel told the judge that the petitioner had joined the police investigation, which was yet to be completed.

The judge extended the pre-arrest bail of Haider till Aug 16 and directed the police to submit a report after completing its investigation. Meanwhile, a lawyer filed his power of attorney on behalf of the complainant.

Defence-A police had registered the FIR under section 406 (criminal breach of trust) and section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and included charges of hurling life threats at the complainant.

Ms Sohail alleged that some four years back, Haider turned of fensive towards her over some issue and later misbehaved with her on several occasions.

She said her estranged husband subjected her to torture, leaving many injuries on her face and other parts of body despite knowing that she was pregnant. She said on July 17, she went to his house in Defence housing Authority to demand Rs5 million her father had lent him.

At this, Ms Sohail said, Haider manhandled her and she called her brother on the spot who rescued her when her husband was allegedly about to shoot her with a firearm.

However, Haider denied all the charges. -Staff Reporter
